Patrick Kana is a furniture designer born and raised on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Having been trained by traditional furniture makers, sculptors, and contemporary designers, both stateside and overseas, he creates furniture and objects that blends sculptural form with honest, traditional methods. Proficiency in both woodworking and metalworking open up possibilities to design and create pieces on both commission and speculation, allowing him to engage in a rich process of self-expression.
Patrick's work is centered around an exploration of both the natural and architectural world fused with the finest local materials and a respect for time-tested methods. This combination, when applied to each piece, is promised to last for generations.
Patrick graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in 2012 with Honors in Studio Art. He has studied under a multitude of designers and makers throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, embracing the richness of apprenticeships. He completed his MFA in Furniture Design at the acclaimed School for American Crafts at RIT in 2015, and serves as the Associate Director of Makerspaces for the for the College of Arts, Media and Design and part-time faculty for the School of Architecture at Northeastern University.
